my phd thesis printed out
well, you can’t really tell from this picture, but these are exactly 222 pages. this is the copy my supervisor gets for the final review before i hand it in. (which i hope will be soon!)

the timing couldn’t have been better: now that the revising is finally done i got an invitation to take part in the European World of Warcraft final beta today!

burn, baby, burn

Friday, July 2nd, 2004

i really do not want to brag about it, but i cannot resist the urge to share: it is history day for me. (actually, it is not such a big deal, but nevertheles…) i burnt my very first DVD today. yes, i finally managed to make up my mind and purchased a Plextor PX-712A DVD recorder. i was constantly short of hdd space and i make backups on a regular basis after the catastrophic hard drive failure some years ago where i lost essential data.

finally farcry

Monday, April 5th, 2004

it is about time that my copy finally arrived. this game rocks, no doubt about that. but the sad thing is that my machine appears to be too slow to run the game with all settings at “very high”. however, i am considering upgrading my hardware this summer anyway. new mainboard and CPU only, because that is the main bottleneck right now… and i am not that busy playing Far Cry because top priority is getting the darn thesis done.

farcry now!

Wednesday, March 24th, 2004

i want FarCry. now. it is supposed to be released in UK tomorrow (or friday), but play.com seems to be out of stock. so i guess i will have to wait until next week before it arrives. aaah, that sucks. that tropical island theme feels just right, especially since it has snowed again. is it ever going to get spring this year?

wireless

Monday, March 22nd, 2004

finally, i switched to a wireless mouse and keyboard. i always wanted a black keyboard (and mouse) to match the rest of my system, but i never found a black microsoft natural keyboard. now amazon.de has this great CeBit sale and i finally got a wireless desktop. i am curious how long the batteries will last…

deus ex: invisible war

Thursday, March 11th, 2004

after all the negative reviews i’ve read, i had very low expectations. just give it a try, it is Deus Ex after all. and i am really suprised! it’s not like Deus Ex, part 1, that is for sure. but the difference does not make this game fade in the light of its highly acclaimed predecessor. it’s like Neocron in single player only, but simpler and with better graphics. what i really love is the thick cyberpunk atmosphere of conspiracy and corruption: that is exactly the “bleak vision” of the future which is unique to this genre.

shooters and stuff

Tuesday, February 10th, 2004

i was tempted to re-install and play Neocron again. but in the end logic was stronger and i refrained from doing so. i know from my past experience that this MMORPG frustrates me after playing one or two days. as a result i downloaded the Call of Duty 1.2 patch, but ended up playing a few rounds Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. speaking of my very last term paper, i made some progress, but not much since my headache is still not gone. i am afraid this paper is going to take longer to finish than anticipated. darn tension headache…

black hawk down

Saturday, January 31st, 2004

an ordinary saturday, nothing exciting happened and i am actually glad about that. re-installed Delta Force Black Hawk Down since i did not finish playing it in summer due to the lack of time or motivation. the games does not have a mind-blowing graphics engine like Far Cry oder Max Payne 2 but i guess it does the job and it’s ok. what’s really great about it is that they designed it closely to the movie; even the soundtrack is very similar! the atmosphere of the game is really riveting and damn real! it is however pretty short. oh well, the add-on will be out soon…

farcry

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

well, i know i should focus on more important things than upcoming first person shooters but i coudn’t resist to give FarCry a try. it’s amazing! this game kicks ass, looks like 2004 is really going to be a hot year as far as FPS go… HL2, Doom 3, and even Breed is supposed to hit the market. there are enjoyable and funny things in life after all…

max payne 2

Sunday, November 23rd, 2003

got max payne 2 for my birthday. (how pathetic…?) nevertheless, i guess that game takes us one step further as far as great gaming experiences go! the graphics engine (HAVOC) simply kicks ass, the dark atmosphere of the game is riveting. and i do love the bullet-time feature! dodging bullets like Neo in the Matrix… it’s a pity that they’ve wasted this feature in “Enter the Matrix” by using a cheap copy (graphics-wise) of bullet-time and calling it “Focus”… but as we learn, intertextuality is everywhere…
