wordpress 1.5

Sunday, February 20th, 2005

yet another step ahead in the evolution of the best blog publishing system around. wordpress 1.5 was released this week and now i updated my blog to it as well. the update process itself was smooth as silk. however, they changed something in the template system and i will have to convert my custom theme to it.

podcasting

Monday, January 17th, 2005

blogging is out, podcasting is in. or so it seems. well, i listened to a few podcasts this past weekend and i really enjoyed them. the combination of personal commentary and selected music tracks is quite unique. it’s like you are putting your own radio show on the net. the idea to podcast myself is tempting… but i don’t have an ipod nor any other mp3 recording device and i am far to shy to speak in “public”… sort of. you know how nervous i am when i have to do a presentation or give a speech about my thesis. so i guess i’ll stick to blogging… for a while at least.

drupal

Sunday, January 2nd, 2005

well, i am perfectly happy with wordpress when it comes to my personal blog, but since i am working on website that should be completely dynamic and database-powered i have been looking for some decent content management systems, aka CMS. phpnuke and postnuke appeared like overkill apps for that job, so i decided to familiarize myself with drupal. it meets all of my criteria: it is php and mysql powered, it is modular, you can customize it easily with templates and it creates valid xhtml output. well, that all may be true for wordpress as well, but drupal is way more powerful and more community friendly. for example, you can create an image gallery where users can upload their images or you can provide a forum without resorting to phpBB.

the joy of blogging

Friday, December 10th, 2004

i. should. post. something. interesting. i really should do so, but unfortunatly nothing really exciting happended or caught my attention the past two days. yesterday i have been busy with various errands like purchasing a new lamp or getting a new battery for my watch. today it was back to revising my thesis. again.

oh by the way: i want to know the visitors and regular readers of my blog better. so please feel free to leave a comment, n’importe quoi, because comments make blogging joyful. and i am really glad a lot of you guys got your own blog now.

yet another blogging community

Saturday, December 4th, 2004

Microsoft jumped on the blog-train as well by launching their very own blogging community called MSN Spaces. it looks quite promising and way more sophisticated than blogger. if you refrained from getting your own blog so far because you were intimated by a confusing installation routine or complex customization procedures, you should give MSN Spaces a try. there are several reasons why blogging is actually good for you.

two years ago…

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

while searching for an article i read for a seminar two years ago i found something i thought i had lost: the complete archive of my blogger-posts. unfortunately, i was not able to import them to MT back then… (it would have been a piece of cake with wordpress!) so, what was i up to at this time of the year two years ago?

the lastest bond movie is great! as usual, they did a great job. at least one film where i do not have the urge to analyze. just watch and enjoy. (Sunday, December 01, 2002)
work, again. read the outstanding articles for wednesday and i am still working on the presentation i am supposed to give on friday. fun fun fun, as usual. (Monday, December 02, 2002)
life’s always surprising. the minority report DVD arrived today so i am able to include it in my presentation on friday. *strike* yeah, this is gonna bei great, i can feel it. (Tuesday, December 03, 2002)

more things…

Thursday, November 4th, 2004

finally i customized the default wordpress template. (thanks to tobyx for his valuable help with CSS.) things are still a little bit rough and unfinished; the comment section is still under construction. so please bear with me…

things to come…

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2004

now that the re-editing of my thesis is almost done, i find some joy in coding CSS and xhtml again. consequently, i am about to revamp my website because i have canceled my second domain. i figured i do not need it and i can easily place the content under my primary domain. i am not happy with the standard wordpress template and some customization is overdue. i am pretty certain to find some time to do that now in november… so be prepared to find something fresh and new at this place…

wind of change?

Sunday, August 1st, 2004

as my readership expands i figure that i have changed the style of my blog entries. i think i have become more careful as far as the topics of my posts are concerned. somehow i feel that i cannot be as honest as i was like a year ago. i am quite sensitive about critisms or attacks regarding myself and who i am. i learned that the internet is a cruel place and that my honesty is an easy target for abuse. but after all this is my blog and it is completely up to me what i post and what i don’t. i try to be selective, to find a balance between how i really feel and the way i put it into words. i observed that i can be misunderstood easily, especially by people who do not know me in person. so i am more cautious now… but maybe this is going to change as well… i do not know.
