reality television, again

reality television takes another leap ahead. i have been quite ignorant when it comes to this emerging genre but now it caught my attention. why do people watch ten celebrities camping in the jungle diving into tanks full of worms, spiders and other unpleasant animals? the second season of the German version of “i am a celebrity, get me out of here” is in full swing… and takes socially acceptable voyeurism yet again to a new level. this show is so sick…

I couldn’t agree more… All this voyeurism freaks me out :( I always wonder when it’ll stop, what should stop tv producers to do those shows? Killing someone live? I’m not even sure it would stop them. And people keep watching that, like nice little sheep. Groups of people mesmerized by the god-like, know-it-all media. It scares me as hell. This way, you can push people belive everything and do anything you want. Sigh. Reminds me too much of the past and of the current political events….

In the UK version, the desperation of the B-list celebrities taking part in the show is just too blatant. They’ll do anything to fire up a second chance at a career.

Sadly, it did work for a few of them, so it’s only beating on more and more.

In the German version, do they make some lame attempt at saying it’s for charity?

the “celebrities” of the German version are desperate as well, like for example Dolly Buster (former porn actress, who actually left the camp on day 2), Maurice Morvan (of the pop group Milli Vanilli) or Harry Wijnvoord (former gameshow host). and yes, they said it’s for charity, at least some of them… i am glad season 2 is over, but a third is already planned.
