the matrix has you

Sunday, July 11th, 2004

yeah, it’s the matrix trilogy all over again. i am basically done with the first part and tomorrow i’ll head right into the second one which promises to add some twists and turns to the already complicated matter. if all goes well i will be finished in two weeks from today! so, stagger onward rejoicing…

the ongoing work

Friday, July 9th, 2004

what suprises me on a daily basis is how actually the analysis of a given movie turns out in the end. i usually watch the movie several times, take some notes and transcribe the dialogues of the most important scenes; important to prove my thesis or whatever. while doing so i mostly have a rough concept in my mind where the analysis is going and what i actally want to say, but nothing concrete… just some idea, yeah, maybe that would fit in here or that might be an explanation why this is so. the creative part and the real analysis is done in a second or even third step when i go through my notes, transcripts and screencaptures and figure out what aspects of Lacan’s or Zizek’s theories would fit in there. and by doing so i usually discover some deeper meaning, something that was not there when i first made the mental concept. this really surprises me and actually keeps me going. Lacan actually would disagree… he would say that the “deeper meaning” was always there but i just did not see it… so the truth is out there… we just have to look for it… look for it very closely.

team time trial

Wednesday, July 7th, 2004

today was the team time trial of the TdF ‘04 and it was raining cats and dogs. however, team us postal and lance did very well, finishing way ahead of the other teams and lance is back in yellow for now. but the tour is not over yet, there are still the mountains and lots of dangers ahead. i was glued to the television set today, watching “lance and the boys” (as they are called) right from when they started in the pouring rain until they crossed the finish line. if you have seen that smile on lance’s face… you’d know what he is after: go for the historic 6th!

the final phase

Monday, July 5th, 2004

the chapter on Minority Report is finshed as well. that means that there is only the Matrix trilogy left. three movies in three weeks — sounds realistic to me. so let the fun finally begin, i have been waiting far too long to get down to do what i wanted to do in the first place… apply lacanian psychoanalysis to the Matrix phenomenon.

time to ride

Saturday, July 3rd, 2004

it is time to ride, again. the Tour de France (TdF) started with the famous Prologue today - an individual time trial of only 6 km, but nevertheless riveting and heart-stopping. lance armstrong finished second only two seconds behind a swiss rider i have never heard of. the next three weeks are going to be great and i really hope that lance wins this 6th title. go lance!

burn, baby, burn

Friday, July 2nd, 2004

i really do not want to brag about it, but i cannot resist the urge to share: it is history day for me. (actually, it is not such a big deal, but nevertheles…) i burnt my very first DVD today. yes, i finally managed to make up my mind and purchased a Plextor PX-712A DVD recorder. i was constantly short of hdd space and i make backups on a regular basis after the catastrophic hard drive failure some years ago where i lost essential data.
