“Is it love tonight
When everyone’s dreaming
Of a better life
In this world
Divided by fear
We’ve gotta believe that
There’s a reason we’re here
Yeah, there’s a reason we’re here
Cause these are the days worth living
These are the years we’re given
And these are the moments
These are the times
Let’s make the best out of our lives”

Hm, those lyrics suspiciously sound like being inspired by “live your best life”….
yeah, it is tempting to think so, indeed. but i had something different in mind. remember the dialogue between Picard and Riker at the end of Star Trek: Generations? “Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we’ve lived.“
I am afraid I will never reach the heights of wisdom Picard has…
Time IS a predator, ripping away everything we love, sometimes just slowly gnawing away at things, at other times violently shattering things. In the end, time and entropy defeat everything and everybody.
Well, I am a pessimist after all…
