a lesson in media culture

for those of you who might think i am kind of delusional - rest asured! i am perfectly aware that characters on tv are not real, they are fiction and sometimes quite unrealistic. nevertheless, an essential part when watching a tv show you enjoy is to identify with the characters presented, to share (at least for the time of the program) their life. or shall we still believe that the poor audience is passive when watching tv and being manipulated by the bad media guys? i could write pages about the active process of watching tv, but i will not do so. figure out yourself, read Stuart Hall!
