vacation

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

after a month of really hard work (no i am not exaggerating!) i guess i really need to do nothing for a while. bike rides, BBQs, and playing the latest FPS’s and RPG’s. maybe catching up some reading, but nothing serious. this is supposed to be my month off. i’m now officially on vacation.

(almost) done!

the TdF 2003 is over, lance won the yellow jersey the fifth time in a row. my paper is finished, too. i just need to print it out (tomorrow) and hand it in (on tuesday). so what’s next? i guess it’s high time for some bike riding.

close calls

Thursday, July 24th, 2003

suddenly, out of the blue, the GPU-board (fancy name, hu?) fan made strange noises and that always means trouble is on its way. tried to get a replacement fan, but my attempts were in vain. no GPU fans in stock. darn. luckly the failing fan made those strange noises otherwise i wouldn’t have noticed it.
my paper is now two days behind the anticipated schedule, but i am going to catch up and try to finish it in time as soon as the new geforce fx 5900 (yeah!) arrives. (that should be tomorrow at noon the case!) i simply can’t concentrate due to the noise of the makeshift fans.

stage 15

Monday, July 21st, 2003

what a stage today! the TdF couldn’t be more exciting. i found myself glued to the screen, watching lance’s climb of the last mountain. and suddenly he just… crashed! boy, i thought, that’s it… but no, lance mounts the bike and launches another attack. he’s back to his “old” form, “flying” up the mountain to win the stage. the fifth TdF victory is within reach, just keep it up!

dig deep, carry on

lance’s not doing as well as expected this year. the tour hit the Pyrenees today and he’s not in good shape after the TT. lance is still wearing the Yellow jersey and i really do hope that he’ll continue to do so, but at the moment… well… there is reason to doubt it.
however, there is little doubt about my paper. i expect it to be finished just in time next weekend.

here are we are now

i guess my paper is to 50 percent finished. have been working pretty hard today, the mood was just right for digging in and getting things done.

these are the days…

Monday, July 14th, 2003

“Some days it don’t come easy, and some days it don’t come hard
Some days it don’t come at all, and these are the days that never end
Some nights you’re breathing fire, and some nights you’re carved in ice
Some nights you’re like nothing I’ve ever seen before or will again”

Alpe d’Huez, anyone?

Sunday, July 13th, 2003

ah, the TdF got to the alpes, finally! and guess what, lance’s back in yellow. i couldn’t resist and simply had to watch the last kilometers of the stage. i expected that lance would win this stage like he did in 2001. he finished third, which was a little disappointing but overall he’s once again in Yellow… go lance, you’re on the ride for five!

up and running

my paper is finally taking shape - just as anticipated. three more weeks to go.

weird, again

Monday, July 7th, 2003

it’s my job and it needs to be done. it was my decision, after all. nobody said this is going to be easy… i am speaking of writing my PhD thesis… sounds exciting? does that make any sense at all? i don’t think so… after a few hours with lacan and zizek… no surprise.
