screaming down a trail

Monday, June 30th, 2003

finally took my bike out for a ride. it was a really hot summer day with no rain or clouds in sight. just perfect!

storming the reality studio…

cyberpunk is really something intriguing. as my paper is making progress, i discover quite astonishing things… what cyberpunk means, what it involves, how to define it? basically, it boils down to the “fundamental” questions: who are you? where are you from and where are you going? and of course — what do you want?

struggle of the mind

Wednesday, June 25th, 2003

you know what to say but you don’t know it right now… that describes the “situation” of my current paper best. my literature is mostly in english and i am supposed to write the paper in german. call it a language conflict! in the last five years english became virtually my second “mother” language, so it’s sometimes really hard to express things in german, because the english is there in my mind.

speaking of the mind, the great adventures are no longer “out there” in outer space, they can be found in cyberspace, with is basically a metaphor for our psyche. need to contemplate this notion.

falling toward apotheosis?

Saturday, June 21st, 2003

in the course of writing my “little” research paper i decided to (re-)read the essential literature: “terminal identity” by Scott Bukatman, “cyberspace, cyberbodies, cyberpunk” by Mike Featherstone and Roger Burrows, “cyberpunk and cyberculture” by dani cavallaro… and a few more, but i consider those three titles mentioned to be the most important. and oh yes, tomorrow’s gonna be less bad, as always…

intersections in real time

the date is set: my paper (including the case study) is due 08/01/2003. actually, it is 10/01/2003 but i know myself too well: i work best under pressure and once the stuff is done i can really enjoy summer. so i force upon myself the august 1 deadline.

some readers of my blog are wondering how many people read it. since it is not linked yet very few people are reading my blog (call it a selected group of people i trust) and most of them i know personally. i am not sure about putting a link on my website to this new blog… let’s give it some time before i make up my mind. anyway, i do not have any webdesign or ftp tools installed at the moment. no time for this right now…

deconstructing falling stars…

Wednesday, June 18th, 2003

first off, great news: the first season of Alias is scheduled to be released on RC2 DVD (UK) in December 2003. *yezz* and i expect the third season of Babylon 5 to come out before christmas as well. after all, time just flies by…

as far as my paper is concerned, the hardest thing is to get started. once you’re up and writing it is kind of unravelling itself. it’s just a matter of deconstructing the topic… yeah, as simple as that. does it show that i contemplate B5 too much?

all alone in the night…

but i am not a shining beacon, at least i hope so. after a few weeks of brainstorming and doing the preliminary stuff for my case study, i guess i am ready to get it down on paper. it’s about time. i have a rough idea what the paper is going to be like, say kind of structure, but i am reluctant to use the term “structure” because i am rather chaotic. well, i can’t start with a few set headlines and then start writing. it’s rather the other way round: i simply start writing and the headlines are the last thing i add. and oh yes, class tomorrow. the last one for this semester.

thunderstorms

Saturday, June 14th, 2003

although i generally like summer best, i do hate those nasty thunderstorms. they usually mean no electricity for hours. those guys are unable to fix it in a timely manner. and guess what? another thunderstorm is just approaching… that sucks.

more than you think you are

had the pleasure of watching the “latest” matchbox twenty musicvideo “Unwell” by chance on tuesday. boy i do love their videos! i found the “Disease” Video rather lame, but this one rocks. and Rob Thomas’ “Love Me” t-shirt is hilarious.
another interesting thing: The Animatrix. finally the DVD arrived (darn national holidays and stuff) and well… i am surprised. suddendly Matrix Reloaded and Enter The Matrix make more sense than ever. (and this only after watching the first four movies.)
